BIOGRAPHY
Ying Kit Chan is a native of Hong Kong. After graduating from the Hong Kong Baptist College (1975), he studied art in several colleges with Kan Tai-Keung 靳埭強, Leung Kui-Ting 梁巨廷, Ting Yin-Yung 丁衍庸 and Mak Yu-Sze 麥語詩. In 1979, he continued his study in the United States, and subsequently received his BFA from the University of Oklahoma (1981) and MFA from the University of Cincinnati (1983). He is presently Professor of Art and the Head of Studio Programs at the University of Louisville. ¶ For three decades, Ying Kit Chan has been exhibiting his art work extensively in the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan as well as in exhibitions in Australia, Ecuador, Germany, Korea, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom. His recent solo exhibitions include IndexG Gallery (2007) in Toronto, LEE fotogallery in Toronto (2001), Gallery 456 in New York (1999), Taipei Fine Arts Museum (1993) and Taiwan Museum of Art (1992). He is a recipient of awards including two Kentucky Arts Council Al Smith Visual Arts Fellowships (1994 and 2002), a National Endowment for the Arts / Southern Arts Federation Visual Arts Fellowship (1992) and the Urban Council Fine Arts Award at the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial (1977).
